8 Tips for a Pain-Free Bikini Wax

 

  1. Resist Your Morning Coffee

Did you know that having caffeine in your system can intensify pain? Swapping your caffeine-filled morning drink with fresh water not only helps to keep pain tolerance levels higher, but will also keep the skin hydrated. Plus, being well-hydrated allows for a healthier, less toxic body, which can only be a good thing!

  1. Try And Avoid Waxing During Your Period

This might sound like a strange one, but believe it or not, the time of the month that you book your waxing appointment could make a huge difference in regards to pain! When you’re due or on your cycle, your skin is super-sensitive (but you already knew that, we know!), especially around the bikini area, where skin is thin and delicate. It’s believed that we can tolerate more pain after our cycle has finished, so bear this in mind when booking a waxing appointment. Of course, there’s no harm in having a wax during your period – we don’t mind! As long as you have a tampon in that’s all that matters.

  1. Always Exfoliate…

Ingrown hairs are particularly common around the bikini area, and exfoliation helps to shed away the dead cells, leaving skin beautifully smooth and hair follicles exposed and ready for plucking! Using a body scrub or exfoliating mitt, gently exfoliate your bikini area but be careful to avoid the inner labia! Wash clean and pat dry to escape any irritation.

  1. …But Never Exfoliate Right Before Waxing

Exfoliation is good, but the removal of this layer of dead skin leaves your skin a little extra vulnerable, so be sure to avoid exfoliating on the morning of your appointment. Go for the day before instead to give your skin time to recover.

  1. Grow Your Hairs

Of course, you already know that going into a waxing appointment having shaved your bikini line recently is a pointless endeavour, but did you know that hair should be at least a quarter of an inch long? Any shorter and the wax won’t have enough to grip to pull it out, plus you can be at risk of rashes and irritation. Please do not trim the hair  – the longer the better – we want you to bring the bush! Longer hair means all of the hair has grown out and can be waxed to give you a smoother feeling for longer.

  1. Skip the Spandex

After waxing, your skin is exceptionally delicate. Wearing loose-fitting clothes will help you to avoid any unnecessary irritation, and cotton underwear allows your skin to breathe and keep you as comfortable as possible. So, skip the tights, leggings, and skinnies for a couple of days!

  1. Ditch the Perfumes

Well, you’re probably not spraying perfume directly onto that area (are you?) but you’ll also want to avoid scented creams/perfumed shower gels and hot bubble baths. In fact, it’s best to avoid the bath altogether for at least 24 hours, and stay away from the perfumed toiletries for a day or two as well. Your skin needs to breathe after all!

  1. Stay Away from the Sun, Sea, and Surf

Just as it’s wise to avoid perfumed lotions and potions, you might want to avoid the irritants that beaches and swimming pools can bring, too. Chlorine can cause extreme irritation to newly waxed skin, and salt water won’t be painless either. Sand too can irritate and your sensitive skin probably won’t enjoy sunbathing too much! Stay covered up and dry for at least 24 hours.
